Jaw joint complaints involve disorders of the chewing system. Our chewing system consists of chewing muscles, two jaw joints and the teeth. The jaw joint is surrounded by ligaments, tendons and masseter muscles. The chewing muscles allow us to use our teeth, as well as swallow, speak, laugh and yawn. If something is wrong with our chewing system, it can cause symptoms such as snapping or a cracking sound when chewing. Pain may occur in the joint near the ear. The teeth, as well as muscles in neck area, may be hypersensitive or painful. And your teeth may wear down excessively. We offer various treatments to remedy these complaints. We offer splint therapy in collaboration with a dental technician. You can visit us with a referral from your dentist or GP.
